Welcome to my faculty home page. Humanities is a broad discipline, covering art, history, literature, philosophy, religion, and other human endeavors. Detailed information on the classes I teach is linked above.HUMA 1301 begins with prehistory and ends with the Middle Ages. We will cover the following topics (among others): early civilizations in Mesopotamia, Greece, and Rome; the five major world religions, Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism; and the rise of medieval culture. We will explore the philosophical and spiritual developments of these societies and religions, and examine the art, literature, and architecture produced during these eras.
HUMA 1302 begins with the Renaissance and ends with contemporary culture. We will cover the following topics: Humanism, the High Renaissance in Italy, and the Reformation; the baroque and rococo styles; Romanticism and the Enlightenment; modernism and postmodernism; the peoples and cultures of Asia and Africa; and globalization. Emphasis will be placed on the visual arts, music, and intellectual history.
