| Course Description: | |||
| This course will cover the cultural aspects of a variety of civilizations from Paleolithic to Gothic. There are reading assignments in the text and additional outside activities to enhance the learning experience. | |||
| Course Text: | |||
| Books 1 and II of The Humanistic Tradition published by McGraw Hill and written by Fiero. Please note that these are the slim little volumes that cover up to Medieval/Renaissance. | |||
|
|||
| Outcomes: | |||
|
|||
| Testing and Grading Policy: | |||
| There are four tests over the texts and lectures. There are study questions as well. A list of images from the text will additionally be memorized for identification purposes. I do not "curve" grades nor "round up". These tests are taken at any of our approved testing centers in the NHMCCD area. | |||
|
Grade Scale is: 90-100 A |
|||
| If you are
outside of the NHMCCD area, you must contact me prior to the start of
class to arrange for a proctor. This takes considerable time and I will
not delay deadlines in testing. |
|||
| Percentages to Final Grade: | |||
|
4 tests @ 20% each 1 Paper @ 20% |
|||
| Assignment Policy: | |||
| It is my policy that LATE ASSIGNMENTS are NOT accepted.Any student may turn it in early but I will not accept tardy assignments. A zero for the assignment will be given for lateness. | |||
| Assessment: | |||
| Material covered on the exam will be taken from artwork in the text and the readings assigned and tasks within Vista.. Tests are administered at any NHMCCD testing centers for designated time periods. | |||
|
|||
|
|||
|
|||
| It is always in the best interest of the student to take the test soon after it is offered. Don't wait until the last minute and follow along with the assignments in a timely manner. | |||
| Research Paper: |
This class requires a research paper and also that the paper be submitted to TURNITIN.com. Our district approves and has provided this cite as a teaching tool for students. No paper will be graded without submission to the site. Instructions for submission are located on the homepage of the VISTA course. | ||
| DROP POLICY: | |||
| It is the student’s responsibility to do the necessary paperwork to add or drop this class. The instructor will not ‘drop’ students who are not attending class. | |||
| POLICY ON PLAGIARISM and/or CHEATING | |||
|
Cheating is not tolerated and a zero grade will be entered for
the exam or the paper. Students are entitled to an appeal through
appropriate academic channels. Any paper or part of a paper copied
from the net or any other source may result in a zero grade for the
course and possible expulsion from the college. It is extremely
important that when you write a paper that EVERY idea not your own
original thought must be cited and the source of the information
designated in proper format. Many students erroneously believe that if
information is paraphrased, it need not have a citation. This has never
been the case. Make sure the paper shows where you found each and every
bit of information that is not your own thought.
Additionally, I do not allow any paper, writing instruments, cell phones, purses or back packs in the testing area. If you choose to bring any of the above into a testing area, you risk a 0 for the test and possible action from the academic dean. Don't take the chance! This is my policy and may not be the testing center policy! |
|||

Computer
Virus Protection: |
Computer
viruses are, unfortunately, a fact of life. Using the diskettes on more
than one computer creates the possibility of infecting computers and
diskettes with a computer virus. This exposes the computers of the
campus, your personal computer, and any others you may be using to
potentially damaging viruses. The campus has aggressive anti-virus
procedures in place to protect its computers, but cannot guarantee that
a virus might not temporarily infect one of its machines. It is your
responsibility to protect all computers under your control and use and
ensure that each diskette you use, whenever or wherever you use it, has
been scanned with anti-virus software. Since new viruses arise
continually, your anti-virus software must be kept current. And, since
no anti-virus software will find every virus, keeping copies of data
(backups) is extremely important. |
