Course Description

This course includes beginner's pronunciation, oral practice, conversation, development of listening comprehension, basic principles of grammar, simple exercises in composition, easy reading which includes cultural material. Students with prior language experience must take a placement exam to advance to the next level and receive credit.   Please fill out the Spanish language placement form at http://cyfair.lonestar.edu/118370/ if you have had prior experience.  (Previous experience includes high school classes, previous college course or speaking Spanish at home.)

(NOTE:  These are NOT the same required materials as Kingwood or North Harris.  These materials are used for all 4 semesters of Spanish at Cy-Fair.)

Other Requirements

Orientation:  Students are asked to attend the course orientation session.  Even if you have taken online courses before, this orientation is crucial.  The course orientation session for this class is set for the second Wednesday of the semester at 7:00 p.m. in the LSC-CyFair Language Lab .

Technology:  Students will need to have access to a computer, speakers and a microphone for this online class.  Students must know how to listen to audio recordings, make audio recordings, download and upload files.  Students must also know how to make the proper accent marks.

Time:  This course is considered an 80-hour course.  Students who take this class “live” spend 80 hours in class and at least another 40 hours outside of class.  During the course of the semester, students should plan on spending a minimum of 10 hours per week on learning the materials (including homework and quizzes).  The material covered in this course can be very challenging and students need to be dedicated and self-motivated to be successful.  Please make sure you have the time.

Exams:  The midterm and final exams for this course need to be taken in a testing center.  You may take them at any of the Lonestar College campuses.    You will be taking these tests through your online class, however you will be given a password by the testing center proctor before accessing them.  No notes or books or any other materials are allowed on the exams.
